5 Reasons for Growing an Organic Vegetable Garden

There are many possible reasons why people would leave the comfortable life in the big city and come to live in the suburbs. For once, the life in the suburbs is a lot safer and risk free, the air is cleaner, the streets are not so dangerous, and the people are a lot nicer and more helpful. Another very important fact is, that there is a lot more space in the suburbs, with spacious lawns and gardens, and lots of opportunities. One of the main reasons why people move to the suburbs, is that they need a change, and they want a place where they can spend some time with a hobby, which they just can’t have in the city – gardening. Nowadays many people decide they want to grow their own vegetable gardens, because they are nature friendly and healthier than the store-bought vegetables. And what better place to do that then the suburbs? Here are a few great reasons to start an organic vegetable garden:

Self-sufficiency

The most unpleasant thing about living in the city is, that you feel completely dependent, when it comes to supplying food, and especially vegetables and fruits. Most of you buy them from the stores, and you have no idea where they come from or if they are organic or chemically fed. And you practically have no other choice then to trust that the manufacturer cares about you as a human being. Well, when you grow your own organic vegetable garden, you are self-sufficient. You own and take care of the thing which gives you the vegetables you eat, and you don’t have to rely on anyone else. This is a very good feeling which is one of the main reasons people engage in gardening activities. Your biggest enemies are bugs, and you get to spend all that time outdoors, what more can you ask for.

Saving money

Do you have any idea how much money you give for fruits and vegetables every single day in the store? And do you know how much these things cost? When you do the math, you will find out that you can get all the vegetables for 50% less money, if you just go and buy it from the producers themselves. The prices we see in all the stores are practically about two times higher, because this way the owner of the stores gets very high profits without having to earn any of it. And when you grow your own organic vegetable garden, you save more than half of your money, and you can invest it somewhere. The only thing you need to give money for are the seeds and the fertiliser.

Safety

Trust me, it’s a lot safer to eat vegetables from your own garden then to buy them from the store. As I said earlier, the store-bought production is full of different chemicals and God knows what else. And when you eat your own vegetables you know exactly how they grew, because you were the one helping them do it. This way you can avoid many health issues, including cancer! And if you encounter pests, there are always natural ways to battle them.

Nutrition

A recent study shows, that the home-grown organic vegetables contain a lot more minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and natural pharmaceuticals than the ones grown commercially and sold in the stores. This means that you will get all the nutrients you need from your own garden, and without the need to pay anything besides the water bill.

Fun

And last, but not least – growing an organic vegetable garden can be lots of fun! This is something you can do with your family and enjoy yourself while you do it. How many people can say the same thing about their jobs?
