5 Tips on How to Decorate Your Garden for Christmas

Christmas is a great time, filled with beautiful family moments, lots of delicious food, presents, decorations and many other things, which make this holiday so special. In many countries Christmas comes in the middle of winter, but to us Australians, it’s practically in the middle of summer. This may sound like a bad thing for many people, but it has a lot of perks, one of which includes the possibility to spend Christmas in your garden, having a great time.

But for everything to be perfect and as close to a real Christmas as possible, you will have to put a few decorations around the garden. This way you will bring a very nice atmosphere, which will spread not only in your entire home, but also around the entire neighbourhood. So, here are a few handy tips on how to decorate your garden for Christmas, which should be more than helpful.

Decorate your garden for Christmas

Lights

The general type of decorations people use for the exterior of their homes and their gardens, are the lights. They are the perfect decoration for Christmas, because they come in all kinds of colours and can be put on practically everything – from Christmas trees to walls and even on the roof. So, why not use these lights to decorate your garden? You’ll just need to decide how many lights would you like, in what shape, colour and size, and tell this to the salesmen at the store. Of course, make some measurements of the house or the place you want to put the lights on. Nowadays there is a great variety when it comes to Christmas lights, so you’ll have a lot to choose from. Also, before you put the lights anywhere, make sure they are working. Another important point when putting lights, is to make sure that the electrical outlets are fully functional and safe. One mistake can cause lots of trouble, so be careful.

Outdoor Christmas decorations

Artificial snow

The fact that the Australian Christmas is in the middle of summer means that there is absolutely no snow around, but this doesn’t mean that we must be OK with it. Fortunately, many stores sell artificial snow in spray bottles or other forms. You can use it to decorate your garden and make it look like a real snowy Christmas setting. Just make sure the snow you buy is from the biodegradable kind, because it’s very unpleasant to have to clean this mess after the holidays are over. Here are some recipes for DIY snow, if you’re a crafty person.

Decorate your trees.

Decorating a Christmas tree is a tradition when it comes to decorating your home for the holiday. But this doesn’t mean that you can decorate only one tree. I’m sure there are at least a few trees or shrubs in the garden, which would look great with a few decorations. So, after you trim the trees, you can put a few lights or other types of trinkets you would like to see up there. The decorated garden trees will bring an amazing atmosphere, and will bring some attention to your property.

Garden Christmas figurines

Figurines.

The one thing that every well-maintained garden needs during the holidays, is a set of thematic figurines. You can get a Santa, a few reindeers, and you will have the perfect Christmas set in your own garden. They are great for taking pictures with them, and some modern models can even sing songs and move, which will make the entire thing look very realistic. Children love them, that’s certain.

Christmas plants.

Some more creative and passionate gardeners take Christmas very seriously, and they make special preparations in their gardens, planting special Australian native plants for Christmas. So, you can use the time you have left until Christmas, and plant a few flowers and bushes for the season, like bursaria spinosa, prostanthera lasianthos and many other. They will bring out the Christmas mood in your garden.
